Actually, none other than the mathematician Stanislaw Ulam made a
similar observation about the non-linearity of resources
vs. complexity of process. Interestingly, it can be shown that, if one
assumes that this is the general case, then the advent of bureaucracy
is inevitable, since the resources required to something grow faster
than the complexity of the something.
